It seems the 9-3 does not give you the feedback that the 900 gave you in the turns. It would seem that stiffer shocks and springs would reduce body roll, but not in this case. A heavier set of sway bars would help. Perhaps others could answer if there was a change between the 1983 and the 1986 900 suspension. My 900 has power steering as well, so there seems to be some differences between your 83 and my 86 900. I ran Pirelli P600s and had Recaro seats in my Saab. The seats were necessary to keep me from sliding around the seat in the curves. I don't think I ever had the front wheels break loose in a turn with my 900. I have had the rear wheels pass me on snow, but that was when I learned the hard way about have all four tires with the same tread depth and make/model.
