"better" tough to say... The v40 will be a bit cheaper in base model, more so if you want automatic, which is standard on the v40. The v40 is a bit confined in passenger area. If you want manual, the 9-3 is better. The 9-3 is bigger, has more power, and may be cheaper when you tack on options, particularly when you consider real selling/lease price. dave
