Yank that hood off, brother. It takes seconds and when you reinstall it will require no adjustments. Unlike your spine, which will require adjustments if you attempt to remove the head with the hood blocking your access. If you're looking down at head bolts that appear to have standard hex sides (i.e., six flat sides on the outside), those are not the original factory head bolts. This means that someone's had the head off in the past. You're DEFINITELY going to be replacing these bolts. Do not consider reusing them -- even if they were the originals, you'd still replace them. Note that the original spec calls for torque to yield bolts, which will stretch once you apply full spec torque to them. I'd advise seeing your local Saab dealer and/or querying various online sources to get ahold of new bolts. Once these arrive in the mail, take them with you to a good auto parts store and get the proper torx sockets. Torx bolts are everywhere in Saabs. Why? They're 100% less likely to strip -- ever. Every lover of American muscle cars will bemoan the prevalence of these "Euro" hardware items. That's because they're idiots. Ever notice how Scandinavian design and engineering has a tendency to show up everywhere else eventually? One last thing -- be sure to get that head resurfaced before you reinstall it, and if you can, have them chamfer the edges of the combustion dome (the region that sits over the cylinder). Sharp edges here have a tendency to heat up and promote detonation (knock). That's going to adversely affect a turbo engine's performance particularly. Good luck!
