If the octane rating of your gasoline is too low for the engine's compression, it will detonate early (pinging or knocking) and may misfire under boost (as the compression ratio increases). If this happens, it will throw a code for the engine's knock sensor and in time may ruin the knock sensor. You may be able to find a cheaper alternative at an auto store, some sort of octane boosting additive. Ben
