Subject: Re: Headlights vs. Running Lights

Here is the answer. I assume your car is US spec, if not then things might be slightly different. The two switch positions are actually "parking lights" and "headlights" The reason they don't work exactly as you would think is because of the daytime running lights wiring now standard on SAABs. With the DRL fuse in, your headlights are on all the time the car is running, regardless of the switch position (even OFF). The parking light position is meant to be used when the car is parked, and turns on the front and rear parking lights only. So it only works correctly when the car is off. I have heard that is something left over from parking the car overnight, so it can be seen. I don't know if it runs the battery down because I haven't tried it. The important thing to realize is that when the switch is not in the headlight position, your rear lights may not be on!!. Because of the DRLs I have gotten into my car a few times and driven with just the headlights on and not the rear lights. I would recommend keeping the switch in the on position all the time, or remembering each time to turn the switch on when it gets dark. Ken Sheldon L.
