They can't force you to use their services unless provided free. You should keep all receipts for oil, filters, etc. if you DIY--and service/material receipts if you have a third-party facility do the work. This is permissible to keep your warranty in force. If you DIY, it is a good idea to log everything you do with dates and other details. Most of this minor maintenance you can DIY assuming a moderate level of mechanical knowledge. Oil changes, tire rotations, etc. are not rocket science and can be done yourself with minimal tools and expertise. With oil changes, just don't over-tighten the drain plug or filter and put the right amount of oil in. On tire rotation, you'll need a jack, jack stand, tire tool, and preferably a torque wrench (alloys should be torqued). > I don't look forward to 20,000, and especially 30,000! The 35k service is $300-400, I think, but includes coolant flush, brake-fluid replacement, wheel alignment, etc. Some of these items you either can't do yourself or go beyond a novice's expertise level. But you still can do most of it yourself and take the car to a good indy for the tough stuff. Just document everything! They cannot deny your warranty if you do maintenance work yourself, if it is done right. For example, if you over-torque a spark plug and strip the threads in the head, they won't fix it free.
