Subject: Timing Belt and Gasket Leak

What is the point to use the easily worn timing belt in my 900SE V6, instead of using a chain in most other Saab engines? (I know the V6 is built by Vauxhall) Will a broken timing belt result in breaking all the valves and pistons? Recently, I checked my spark plugs and noted that there was oil inside. Is it an indication of gasket leaks? It clanks a little longer when I start the engine in the morning then usual, and I notice a slight drop in gas mileage. Are these all related issues? I can still drive my car but what will happen if I simply ignor this problem? Regards,
