Subject: Saab's reliablity.

I've pretty much decided that I'm going to get a used Saab. (Unless another European catches my eye and is the right price, VW maybe.) So I've been reading a lot of messages in the list, and tonight I talked to a Saab Driver. He said that he had an '83 (manual) that he bought with 23 miles on it, he had very few problems with it until 300,000 miles when a little old lady pulled out in front of him. He then bought an '86 (automatic) that he drove until 187,000 miles until the transmission gave out and he got a Jetta. Is this type of reliability I can expect from an '80's Saab? Our local repair shop is very expensive, but they "get the job done soon, and get it done to OEM or better." How difficult are small repairs on Saabs? I plan on doing my own. Thanks for any help.
