Subject: New Saab Engine

I have been doing some reading on the new Saab Variable Compression (SVC) engine and although I am not an engineer and understand only about 1/2 of what they are talking about - I CAN'T WAIT!!!! 1) This engine may do away with the notorious head gasket problems (although it may raise other issues). 2) The thought of getting 225hp out of a 1.6L 5-cylinder NORMALLY ASPIRATED engine makes me shiver with excitement. (Remember, that's just short of the horsepower of the Viggen which is a 2.3L turbo-charged engine...) 3) They are touting a 30% increase in fuel efficiency because they are able to now vary the compression to get power when needed and efficiency when the power is not needed. Hmmmm.... more power AND better gas mileage? Where do I sign up?!!!! If they drop this engine into a little 2-seater that is rumored to be in development, they are going to blow the socks off any of the Z3s, S2000s or other "boxers" out there. Anybody have any thoughts on when we might actually see this engine appearing in cars? Attached is the URL for the information about the engine if you haven't already seen it. Try to keep from drooling on your keyboard... :-) Scott
