Subject: Re: Saab 900 Turbo Convertible

If you need a (regular) left hand drive car and are located in EU Iīd have a close look at "www.mobile.de", there are some very good offers, if you are in the US thereīs "www.saabs.com". In 1994 there was the change from the classical 900 (99 base) to the 900NG (9-3) that was built in cooperation with GM. NO, I donīt want to decide which car is (was) better, I own a classical (MY93) one. The price for the old 900 convertible is very stable and little increasing in the last years. When you really want to buy a 900 convertible you should really have first a test drive when you want to decide between the old and the new one - you īll be surprised (love the classical one or hate it - thereīs nothing in between). When you take a classical you should take a stick shift version, the gear box is not so bad, at least the S (low pressure turbo 141hp) or the real turbo (165hp). There are some US-versions available that had airbag, sport suspension, full turbo, AC, power seats and all those stuff equipped as standard for a lower price - itīs wise to take such a car. The driver airbag was first offered in 1991/92, the passenger airbag was not offered at the classical 900. The driving behaviour of the classical 900 conv. at the turbo version with sport suspention is amazing, the acceleration is compared tho the cars weight absolute sufficient (0-100km/h is not so important but 8s might not be so wrong, Saab says 9s). The crash behavior of the old 900 was outstanding, the new 900 only got ** at the NCAP crash test - I also donīt want to decide which one is better. (the front crash behavior of the new 900 could be better (itīs very soft) compared to the 95, the old 900 is harder and stiffer in the front - depending on the situation / speed, there are advantages/disadvantages) There are crash test of the non convertible versions available at: http://www.fia.com/homepage/selection-a.html When you still want to buy a new 900/9-3 then avoid the GM V6 engine, take a 4cyl turbo. The head gastket at the old enigne is not the big problem, the valve cover gasket is changed more often but thatīs quite easy and cheap (ever 60k to 80k km) Greetings, RCS Nathaniel Trotter Oleson : > I'm looking into buying a Saab.
