If your car is like my '91 was, the switch on the brake pedal (and clutch for 5-speeds) may simply be out of adjustment. Remove the cover under the dash to expose the pedals and locate the CC switch. Depress the pedal to release the plunger, pull the plunger out as far as it will go (you'll hear clicks as you do this), then let the pedal up slowly. This should set the switch for a time at least, but I found that mine needed re-adjustment every year or so.
