If no rust is apparent, look underneath, at the rocker panels and the rest of the underbody. Also, look closely at the shock towers, both behind the wheels and under the hood. Look at the engine block under/behind the intake manifold - this is where the water pump is located. Check for moisture on the block near where the pump is embedded into the block. The B-motor water pump is prone to leaking here, and while it's not the end of the world, they aren't cheap to replace, since they require special tools te remove and refit. If the water pump is leaking, you need to watch your temp gauge very carefully, as you are losing coolant. The B-motor turbo valve head is prone to cracking under high temperature. Look for blue smoke out of the exhaust, especially when using the turbo. If you get nice, puffy, blue clouds out of the tailpipe when you use the boost, it could be time for a new turbo. Check that all of the electrical systems are working (especially the cooling fans / thermo switch). Even if they are, buy a good multi-meter, because these cars are susceptible to weirdness in the electrics. Examine the radiator for corrosion - on the 99T in particular, it is important that your colling system work well. I would recommend (if you don't already look there from time to time) asking particular technical questions on the Saab Network's "other models" bulletin board. The people on that board know a lot about these cars.
