Subject: Re: '93 9000CSE Turbo not boosting properly

A short and simple troubleshooting guide for low boost problems: 0. Check all hoses. 1. Make sure you have the right ground boost level, this should be 0.4bar. On your boost preasure gauge, this is somewhere between 12 o'clock and the first red marker. To find your GBL you need to disable the APC. Do this by 1/ Disconnect the electrical plug on the APC valve 2/ Remove the APC fuse (#5) 3/ A gentle push on the brake pedal, just enough to light the brakelight while driving. 1 or 2 is easiest. Now, using 5th gear, accelerate as fast as possible: Boost preasure should reach about 0.4bars and STAY THERE. If GBL is ok you know that the wastegate and its actuator is working properly. If boost level goes berserk connect hooses W and C to completely eliminate the APC valve. Try again. If you do not have a proper GBL now, there is probably a problem with the wastegate or the wastegate actuator. 2. Assuming GBL is ok: Check the bypassvalve. You should not be able to blow or suck in any of its three in/outlets. 3. Make sure you have power to the APC valve when ignition is i position "on": measure voltage btw the middle pin and any ground point. 4. Check the APC valve: You should be able to blow or suck in "W" and "C" but not in "R". Check the electrical resistance of the APC valve: Pin 1 <=> 2 = 3ohm +-1ohm Pin 2 <=> 3 = 3ohm +-1ohm If there is a shortage in any of the coils of the valve you may also have damaged you ECU. If everything turns out ok, check all hoses again. There is probably a leak somewhere....:) In 9 out of 10 cases there is a problem with leaking hoses, the apc valve or the bypass.....
