Discs can and do corrode and this corrosion is rubbed off with each application of the brakes. "Rust" dust is highly abrasive. Live in a dry dusty climate? Dust can also eat away at the pads and rotors. 2) Pad Composition: Some pads are harder/softer than others and have different wear rates. 3) Driving Habits: Are you a "hard-braker"? Do you anticipate things like red lights and stop signs and let the engine slow you down in advance of actual brake application? All of these things have to be considered before "heavy dusting" can be tracked down.
