Subject: are there any good '95 900SE's?

Hi, I've been mostly looking at used 1997 900SE's, when I figured i would take a quick test drive of a Volvo just to see how they drove. I was telling the sales person what I was looking for in a Saab, and he said that he was thinking about selling his 1995 SE for about 15K, and asked if I would be interested. I have heard so many horror stories about 1992-1996 Saab's, however, so are a few details: This car *looked* beautiful. I did not test drive, or even turn on the engine, but it looked like it was in great shape. He brought the car over from Hawaii 6 months ago. It's fully loaded, including CD changer. He bought the car with 42k on it from the dealership that he worked for in Hawaii, and it now has 56k miles (He said he was maybe going to upgrade to a 2000). He said that all the service records were not avail. because they were still at the dealer's in Hawaii, but that he has never had a problem with it. He said he has replaced the thermometer, and is about to replace the clutch, and has given it regular oil changes. I guess I'm very cautious to consider anything earlier than a '97, but it's about 3k cheaper than the 1997's, it has the old style dashboard which I like, and it was a nice color (maroon) with all black interior, and it had really dark tinted glass (which may or may not be a good thing). 1. When can you tell if one of these year Saab's are actually one of the 'good ones'? 2. At 56K, is it possible for me to figure this out w/out the service records (mechanic...)? 3. Should I not even consider it since he doesn't have the service records? 4. Are there any issues of getting it inspected? (emission differences between Ma. and Hawaii?) It still has Hawaii plates. 5. What kind of things would/should I expect to have to replace within the next year or so (brakes, exhaust...)? 6. Now, lets say that this is one of the good cars that is not filled with horror brake down stories. Are there any differences that I should be aware of between the 1995 SE's and the 1997 SE's? I've been told that 1994-1998 there were no major changes, but... Also, the driver's seat is not as comfortable as the newer 1997's, and I was wondering, short of replacing the seat is there anything aftermarket that I could buy which would make it more orthopaedically comfortable? Sorry for the long post, but I don't want to rule this car out if it's worth seriously considering, and don't want to consider it if the chances are it's going to cause me a lot of problems. Looking for feedback/suggestions!! (especially if you own/have owned a '95). thanks! Sean SCorlissnopsamress.com
