I just purchased a 1989 Saab 9000 CD turbo...For some reason I like Saabs...However I purchased it knowing there was something wrong with the transmission....when you turn the key it is automatically in reverse...this is the only function of the transmission... Is this how automatic transmissions fail (159,000 miles) or does it seem like another problem...a Foreign auto dealer stated it needs a rebuilt transmission, I don't question his authority but upon fiddling around with the cable going to the tranny, I noticed the cable is quite loose entering the takes very little effort moving the gear shifter.....Any comments please...Could it be as simple as the cable, or...what is the history of the 89's automatic transmissions....
