Thule makes a custom roof rack for SAAB. I bought the bars only at a SAAB dealer for about $100. Then you can buy the other items such as luggage boxes, bike racks, ski racks, etc from anywhere you want, as long as they are Thule or compatible. My 96 900SE has pre-drilled holes behind the upper door gasket. It's a coupe, so it has a special set-up for the rear bar. No complicated straps, foot adapters, or anything else. $1000 seems really outrageous. Check the Saab catalog on-line site for their prices.
