Congratulation!!, and welcome to the fold. You just got yourself the last true SAAB; Starting with the 94 model GM showed its ugly face. This car, with care, should easily last for well over 200K. I have the 91 900S 5-speed and it's the most honest car I've ever owned since starting to drive in 1966 (VW, Toyota, GM crap, Sunbeam Alpine, BMW 5 series, etc..). The only issue here is maintenance. European cars are NOT Japanese (fill gas and run), they're designed to require regular maintenance. MAINTENANCE, MAINTENANCE, MAINTENANCE. 1) Change oil & filter EVERY 3-4K miles religiously. I use Valvoline 10-30 and MANN oil filter (this car is real easy to change its oil and filter, do this yourself and save. you will also do a better job if you let the engine get to operating temp just before you change the oil, this way the sludge is in liquid form and is suspended in the oil) 2) Flush radiator and replace cooling fluid EVERY 2 years (50/50 mix). you can do this yourself too 3) Change transmission fluid EVERY 15-20K (let a knowledgeable professional do this one, NOT the looser around the block) 4) flush and change break fluid EVERY two years (learn how to do this and save a bundle, you'll need a friend with you on this) 5) Change spark plugs every 15K (so easy, you do it standing up relaxed with a nice cold beer). NGK plugs are the best here 6) If you need tires for this car, I recommend the Pirelli 4000 Super Turing 185/65 HR 15. I just got my second set from Tire Rack for $52 each. Get the SAAB 900 Official Service Manual, Robert Bentley publisher (good reference) ISDN 0-8376-0312-9>4995 I use EURASIAN PARTS SELECT for all maintenance items (filters, break pads, etc..), 800-824-8814. Fine outfit and good prices; I deal with them for my SAAB and VW parts since the early 90s Good luck and Enjoy!!! -- Remove "NOSPAM" from address for direct e-mail ####### # #### # # # # # # # ## # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # ## # # #### # # #
