Subject: Advice Needed: 1987 Saab 9000S AutoTrans

OK All: The AT in my '87 9000S is just starting to slip. The car's got nearly 170K miles on it, so I know it's long overdue. I've located one of the factory rebuilts that was originally installed on another car. This auto was supposedly totalled in an accident on the way home from the transmission shop -- the claim is that it only has 20 miles on it. The claim is also that it still has the 1-year warranty on it from the factory and that it's transferrable. It's my understanding that the primary reason that these ATs fail is that grit gets into the internal valves and destroys the governor.... If I buy this AT and have it sent from NY to Seattle, is dirt and contamination going to be a big problem -- or is this kind of swapping not uncommon and shouldn't be a problem? Any thoughts, folks? Thanx TSG Seattle
