You didn't state what model year you have, but you may be suffering from TCS "limp" mode. Next time your engine fails on the highway, take you foot off the gas completely, and then step on the gas pedal but press all the way down firmly. You may find that the engine will now respond through the much stiffer mechanical throttle linkage. If this happens, then your having TCS problems, not DI problems.
