Unless the valet parker is hammering around under the hood with heavy tools, it is unlikely that he/she/they cause the crack. Sounds more like defective materials were used in the manufacturing of the balancer itself. Question: Did you see the balancer after it was replaced? I have never seen one that made any noise or had cracked.
