Subject: Saab lease turn in / maintenance

I have a '98 900S Convertible that I will be turning back in off lease in a few months. The lease is through Saab/Chase. I would love to buy the car at lease end but my dealer tells me that Chase will not negotiate the price. The residual is $23k and blue book wholesale is $18k. I never pay more than $500 above wholesale for a used car. My dilema is that the 35K service is now due. I called the dealer and was given an estimate of $500 to $700. Obviously this is a lot of money to put into a car that I will not be driving for long. Should I: A) Just do an oil change and turn the car in. Can Chase charge me for the service? There is nothing in the contract that I can see. B) Do a limited service? There seems to be a lot of fluff (aka dealer profit) in this service such as front end alignment (the car drives fine), cooling system flush (why not just test the coolant), brake fluid drain/refill (why do this if you are not changing the pads). By the way I tried to trade the car in about a year ago when I moved to Illinois from Michigan. In order to register the car in Illinois they wanted me to pay sales tax on the car's value (almost $2000). Michigan charges sales tax on each lease payment and Illinois does not recognize that. (what's even funnier is that if I decide to buy the car at lease end I will have to pay sales tax all over again!!!) So I tried to trade in on a new Saab. Chase wanted to charge me residual + remaining payments + $350 minus the car's actual value (blue book wholesale). At that time the blue book wholesale was $1000 less than residual so the turn in would have cost me $7000!!. They absolutely refused to negotiate on this. Based on their unwillingness to work with us I am going to do everything in my power to screw them. Thanks for your assistance on this worthwhile endeavor Drew -- Drew Childress drewcwsjnopsameja.com Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
