Subject: Re: '86 Saab 900 Auto Tranny Lazy & Shiftless

You have either maintained your transmission or you are lucky. Most automatics from that era have a history of failing. Consider yourself fortunate to have an '86 900 with a working auto. Try the cleaning procedure in the manual. If it fails you may need to empty out your wallet. If the body has no rust this car could be worth the cost of replacing the transmission, otherwise part it out. If it had a manual tranmission and no rust, I know of at least three people who would buy it today. I went to a Saab "show" at a Saab/Volvo repari shop this weekend. They had the 9-5 Aero wagon, 9-5 sedan and 9-3 Viggen. The person coordinating the show and two customers besides me wanted to buy a 900 classic with a manual transmission. We all lost our 900s to either rust or accidents. The common plea was "to get my old Saab back". Everyone drove the new Saabs for fun, but everyone wanted to buy a 900 Classic. If you only had a manual transmission in your car. . .
