I owned a 97 900SE and now own a 2000 9-3SE. Both are great cars. Things that were standard on the 900 were options on the 9-3; however, the total price didn't really change that much for equal equipment over the 3 years. SAABs are getting more and more reliable (or at least starting to get better reliability ratings from Consumers Reports and others). For that reason, along with resale for a "current" model, I'd go for the 9-3 if you can.
