No.... if it was the fuel pump, it would still crank over. It would just act like it ran outta gas. By the way, the fuel pump DOES groan or moan once when you get it fired up after being empty of gas. Like a vacuum sucky sound. If it doesn't crank, suspect either the starter or the battery which might have enough to run a light or a radio, but not enough to crank an engine. I'd start on the battery & battery connections.
