Subject: Re: Synthetic Oil

I have wrestled with this question. In the early '80's it seemed that the synthetics were formulated in such a way as to cause seal leaking if the synthetics were used in vehicles that had any moderate amount of mileage using regular oil. The garage mechanics then all advised against switching. Lately, however, it seems that the synthetics have been reformulated and there have been a large number of users on this group who seem to have had good luck in switching with little or no leak problems. My '87 Turbo has 147,000 and I think that I may switch come this spring. However, I am going to ask my new mechanic who has a very good reputation around the Cape Cod area. I will know then, I hope.
