Subject: Synthetic Oil

Although I know this question has probably been asked a million times before, I guess I never caught any of the threads! Has there ever been an absolute answer to the question regarding changing to synthetic oil after using traditional petroleum-based oils? I am sure a certain mileage point is somewhat critical - possibly a recommendation not to switch to synthetic after 100K??? I've known of other Saab owners who've switched to Mobil 1 10W30 after having used Valvoline 10W30 petroleum-based oils for over 100K without problems. On the other hand, I've heard of others who developed seal leaks, blow by, and other problems by making the switch. I know of the technical superiority of synthetics, and their uniform molecule make up, but just wondering about making a switch mid-stream, so to speak. Any conclusive answers?? Thanks, Don
