Eva, It may be the 1)water pump bearing (slight possibility) or 2)the idler pulley (more probable) or 3)the harmonic balancer. making the noise. 1) Remove the A/C belt and see if it still makes the noise. If not, presto!, it is the idler pulley. replace it and the noise will stay away. 2)If the noise is still there, take a flashlight and see if the water pump pulley is rocking while it rotates. If so, it may point to a water pump bearing failure. If so, replace the water pump. (This just happened to me. No coolant leak, just noise. Replaced the pump and all is well again.) 3)The harmonic balancer can be a problem as well. If there is a lot of oily residue on the front of the engine (on and around the belts), it could cause premature failure of the harmonic balancer which is part of the bottom engine pulley. If the engine is dry in this area, I would not be too suspicious of this, though. The way to test it is to get under the car and put a chalk or crayon mark radially on the pulley crossing the rubber transition (this will make sense when you get under it and look at the pulley). Start the engine and listen for the noise. Shut the engine down and look at the mark. If it is still a straight line, the harmonic balancer/pulley is fine. If the line has separated, the balancer has failed. Be thankful that you found it before it left you stranded.
