Subject: Inhibitor switch problem?

I've been having an intermittent problem with starting my '93 9000 turbo automatic. I've had this problem for four years, sometimes it goes away for months, other times it happens almost every day. Sometimes the car will not start, as if it is in gear even though it isn't. A year ago, whilst driving the starter motor cut in and smoke came from the gear selector. I had to pull over and ended up with a small fire. After this, the inhibitor switch was replaced and I've had no more problems, up until a couple of weeks ago when it came back. Is this a known problem? Do I just need to replace the switch again? Is it something I can do myself, or does it need to go in to a dealer? Mark.
