Hello Mike, The problem arrises from the fact that the head unit (radio) is made by Goodmans and is therefore of p**s poor build quality, it could be a mosfet in the internal amp, a dry joint thats arc'd to earth or any number of similar faults. You could pull the lid and see if you can see any dryjoints. If so give them a tap with a hot soldering Iron and see if the head unit will work after this. If its lasted a year then thats impressive performance from a Goodmans. When you look that £100 can get you a kenwood or Sony single CD player with an RDS/EON tuner then you have to ask is it really worth keeping the Goodmans and spending time trying to fix it. See www.caraudiodirect.com for more info on the kenwood or send Jon at www.incarexpress.co.uk an e-mail. I'm not connected with either company just a satisfied customer of both. If you want any advice on ICE (In Car Entertainment) drop me a line. Cheers Matt
