Subject: 9000 Carlsson 2.3T (old style) - TCS Warning Light On & No Throttle Response - Any Ideas ??

Hi, I have a problem with my 91 model 2.3 Turbo 9000 Carlsson (old style, not CS or CD). Recently the TCS CTRL warning light has started to come on. The car will tick over at around 600rpm but will not respond to the throttle unless I put my foot flat to the floor which produces a full throttle response (not very good in traffic !) The problem is very intermittant in nature and is almost impossible to reproduce. When the problem occurs it can usually be reset by switching the engine off and restarting with my foot flat to the floor. The TCS CTRL warning light is the only warning that comes on. There does not appear to be any pattern to the occurance of this fault. I took the car into my local (uk) dealer and got the diagnostics checked. They couldn't find any fault codes and basically told me that unless they could see what the fault codes were they hadn't a clue what could be causing the problem. Their only answer was to try changing various components and see if the problem went away. I had a similar problem a few years ago but the ABS light came on as well and the throttle was completly dead (even if I put my foot flat to the floor). My mechanic loaned me a replacement ECU and TCS throttle housing but this did not sort out the problem. In the end one of the front ABS sensors showed up in the diagnostics and was replaced which sorted out the problem. In addition, the previous owner of the car had reported a similar problem and had replaced the ECU, throttle pedal switch and cable. If anyone has had a similar problem and can suggest any causes or remedys I would be very grateful. Paul Liddy
