Well, I think snow tires are a GREAT idea, but I'm not sure about the "three-year" argument. I returned my 1997 Discovery after three years and 44,500 miles, and still had plenty of wear left on the original Michelin 4x4s. My wife is about to return her 1998 Passat with 31,000 miles, again with plenty of room left on her Michelin MV4s. Ah, but you're not convinced yet, so I will give you some more "Original Tire Lease Returns" from my immediate family: Two 1994 Infinit J30s, one with 32,000, one with 41,000 1996 Infiniti G20, 48,000 miles (just passed the "penny head test") 1997 Infiniti QX4, 45,000 miles The only car I have ever had that would wear out a set of normal tires in less than 40K was my 1990 VW Fox, which went through Pirelli P44s on the front every 10,000 miles - JB
