Subject: Re: Saabs and Homosexuality

In article <95s5dk$606nopsamatch.concentric.net>, jacknopsame.net says... > So, I'm in for service the other day at my local dealership, and > I realize that: > > -There are four men in line for service. I am #4. > -The first three are openly, lispingly, outrageously, gay. > -None of them know each other. > -We're all Saab owners. > > As a straight guy (in all honesty, I'm so ugly that I'm not sure I'd > have any luck as a homosexual), I started to wonder if I was the > exception, rather than the rule, among Saabers. ... The easiest way to take care of a troll, is to treat the issue seriously. It also is the easiest way to resolve a serious question. Either way, this is an interesting issue. I am hetero, but I find that I have some interests that put me in interesting company. I like to read novels and some poetry. Hemingway is long-gone; the American Literary scene (along with Univeristy English departments) are just full of gay men. I also can hold my own in a small-town symphony orchestra. Outside of the US Military, I think most male Classical performers are gay. Many gay people have also said this to me. I also like to paint and sculpt. We won't even get into Football. I guess my point is, that our culture offers us many gender- neutral choices, which are often taken over for a while by one subculture or another. All us beer-swilling greasy hetero pigs would turn scarlet with embarrassment if we stopped to think how many words we use originated in gay male culture, or where our personal taste in social manners and clothes has often come from. Yet these words and ideas work for us, and that's all that's really important. I really don't think that liking flowers or reading poetry or going to the ballet makes me gay. I've also overhauled a couple of old Saabs in my life, and that didn't make me staight, either. milt brewster PS: ON the other hand; I swear to god that an interest in softball and saxophones together will turn any female to a lesbian.
