Subject: '91 9000 Auto Transmission questions

Today my daughter's auto transmission developed the following problems: When starting out from a dead stop, it WILL not go if Drive is selected. I have to put it in first to get going, then can drop it into drive and it seems to work OK except when it is shifting from Overdrive down one gear (happens at 35mph when going up a hill)....the engine revs up 1500 RPM and then it hits the lower gear with a jerk. There is never a problem when going into reverse. My question is: 1) Could this have been caused by using the wrong oil....Dextron II is labled on the cover for the transmission (I started getting it ready to remove) and it has Synthetic Dextron III rated oil). By the way, I flushed the oil 10K miles ago with four consecutive changes (took about 4 gallons of oil to make it bright red again). 2) Do you think I could just remove the cover and put in a new valve body and fix this ? It seems to shift fine when going and there is no slippage. 3) Can anyone recommend a good place that rebuilds SAAB auto for a reasonable price, and what should I expect to pay (assuming I do the removeal/reinstall of the transmission). Thanks for your help ! JC -- Jim Collins Issaquah, WA
