Subject: Re: Viggen vs base 9-3 differences?

<<2001...base 9-3's are not covered under the "no charge maintenance plan". >> Wow, that sucks!! Although it does coincide perfectly with a conversation I had with a Saab salesman at my local dealership. After milking him for just about every piece of information he could provide on the 4 different versions of the 9-3, he confessed that Saab/GM's ultimate marketing goal is not to appeal to people like me, the low-end buyer. From the discussion we had, I gleaned that Saab/GM, with marketing directors straight from Saturn, will attempt to revamp every aspect of the sales end, including dealership layouts, informational computer systems, down to the very colors around the showroom floor and the finish on the wood furniture. It seems to me that this may be one reason why Saab's future plans for the 9-3 exist only to supplement the 9-5 line. Any and all "quirkiness" that some of us find so admirable in the Saab marque will be lost, and another cookie cutter line of vehicles will be born. Not to mention the goofy plans for an SUV. I don't know about most of you folks (especially owners of original 900's that Saab has turned a blind eye to) but this pretty much spells out the death of "SAAB" in my eyes. I guess we'll just have to learn to conform along with the stinking yuppies.
