Evidently you are not an electrical engineer :-) The impedance of the speakers has to match the design of the amplifier. If the amplifier's output stage is designed for a load impedance of 4 ohms, then you use 4 ohm speakers. If it is designed for 8, then you use 8 ohm speakers. With two amplifiers it is entirely possible that they are designed to handle different impedance speakers. To make this clear: The impedance of the speakers has absolutely NO EFFECT on the sound quality. The just have to MATCH the amplifier's output properly. Anyone who tells you any different has his head all the way up his tailpipe. >For $28,000 I expect thicker speaker wires and >more than a "very good quality" sound system Gee, I hate to repeat myself, but evidently you are not an electrical engineer :-) The minute voltage transmitted across a speaker wire is easily handled by a 24 gauge speaker wire. The people at the stereo store and a couple of "innovative" manufacturing firms would have you believe that somehow a larger wire is going to have some effect on your sound quality. It might affect your wallet, it won't affect your sound quality. Let me make this one perfectly clear too: 24 gauge wire will have NO EFFECT on the quality of the sound from your speakers. It's plenty big enough. Bob
