My entire family has been using Synthetic Oils in our cars since the early 1980s. My father worked for a European luxury car shop here and because of it we started with a fully synthetic non-detergent oil from the UK called Felta's, but it became unavailable in the US in the early 90s and switched to Redline synthetics in all our european cars (Saabs and BMWs). I stuck with a petroleum Castrol in my US made vehicles. In about '95 I switched over to Mobil 1 products. I've made many a fan in synthetic oils with the mileage on my saabs. I have 4 saabs that I have always run sythetic oils in and they all have lived longer lives because it. My 1981 900s has 447,318 miles on it this morning and I drive it every day. It was my first saab and is still my daily driver. It has had synthetic oil in the engine and gearbox since it was less than two years old. I also have two '84 900s'. They have both had synthetic oil in them since the first oil change. The first is my wife's daily driver and it has 371,886 on the odometer and has also had no major work on the engine or gearbox. The other '84 was my brothers and has had the same synth history, but only has 220K on it. I'm just holding onto it until he returns from overseas. I also have an '85 Turbo that I purchased last year with petroleum oil in the engine and a failed AT. With only 175K on the engine...I had receipts for over 7K in repairs from 2 previous owners and very little of that is tranny work. I swear by synthetic oil and would never put anything else in a vehicle I care about again.
