The idling problem sounds like your hooter (turbo bypass) valve has failed. If it starts back up OK after it stalls and continues to run OK until the next time you let the engine RPM drop, then you have the classic symptoms for this problem. It cost about $25 to $40 for the part depending on where you buy it. You can even get it over the internet from www.carparts.com. I will let someone else work on your second issue.
