Subject: Re: jumpstarting saabs

In 1989 when my 87 9000-T wouldn't start, a AAA emergency service guy tried to jump start it. The battery was too far gone so he towed it to a garage where they were at least familiar with a Saab. They recharged the battery and I was on my way. That night I found that the locking system did not work properly. I had to lock and unlock all doors and the hatch manually with the key. The next day I stopped to gas up and found the gas cover was still locked. Since there was no lock access on the outside, I had to remove the grid from inside the trunk and manually unlock the gas cover. The torx driver that is used to remove the grid was missing. I ended up breaking the grid with the tire iron and gassed up. I continued my trip. When I got home my service people told me that the central locking control had burned out. From what they said, it was probably the attempted jump start that did it. It was suggested that when jump starting, disable the central locking system (I believe they said to remove the fuse). I have not jump started another Saab since.
