Subject: Too soft driving caused stalling and idling problems?

Last night I learned a lot of my Saab 9000 -91 fuel injection system, thanks to a great site: www.saabnet.com. I found out that the reason to the stalling and bad idling problems was between the driver seat and the steering wheel. I drive the car mostly in city traffic and seldom rev the engine to 3000 rpm. What I learnt was, that the Air Mass Meter burn-off is working only if the engine has run above 3000 rpm and attained a engine temperature of 65C (150F). This burn-off function cleans the Air Mass Meters sensor and takes place about 4 seconds after the engine has been switched off. This morning (after spending most of the night on the Saabnet site) I took the car for a spin and it was as bad as usual. This time I drove the car in lower gears than usual, and some times even on WOT. When I switched the ignition off, I heard a few seconds later an relay-click (probably the burn-off) what I cant reckon to have noticed before. After that I checked the fault codes in the ECU memory, thanks again to the Saabnet site. There where four(!) fault codes: 12223= Fuel-air mixture lean 12224= Fuel-air mixture rich 12111= Oxygen sensor adaptation fault - throttle open 12112= Oxygen sensor adaptation fault - throttle open Then I cleared the CHECK ENGINE -memory, and took the car for a ride, and what a ride it was! It¥s an great feeling when one can stop in red lights without the "heel-brake, toe-gas" -hassle and concentrate on happy things outside the car and not the RPM-meter. Smooth idling summer to everybody! Johan
