If so, is it a destructive > event to valves etc? Yes. My '93 9000 suffered a broken timing chain at 65,000 miles. The cost of repair was $2800 (and that was at an independent shop, not the dealer). Damage included bent & broken valves, etc. There was no warning. Good luck! Jeremy
