Subject: Re: Rear-speakers 900 '93...?

Don't waste your money on any of the 4 X 10 speakers... I have gone through a few ... the all sound lousy and are way over priced...etc... All you need to do is take a piece of plywood cut to about 4.5" X 10.5" and set the stock Saab rear deck speaker grill down on top of it. Mark the four screw holes and drill them. Now go buy any good 4" or 3.5" diameter speaker and mount it to the center of the plywood adapters. You will need to cut a circle hole in the adapter board to mount the new speaker and probably drill a few holes around its perimeter to attach it to the adapter...etc... This is stupid easy ... even I did it and now have some fine JLAudio 4" all-range speakers in the back... along with an incredible subwoofer and some good fronts etc... You can also make the adapter board or plate any size you want... but you will have to mount it off-center to the original opening and grill... as the rear speakers in the Saab are kinda stuck in the corners of the trunk and you wont be able to center mount a 6 X 9 or say a 10" round speaker centered on the old 4 X 10 opening... without running into the inside side of your car trunk...etc... So instead you mount a 10" X 10" board off-center to the original 4 X 10 opening using the original grill without modifying the open hole and making the rear deck look awful... then you cut the appropriate circle hole in the adapter and mount the 8" speaker of the 6 X 9 or what ever you want to the adapter plate and ignore the fact that a third or half of the speaker is pointing up through the hole in your adapter plate at the cardboard rear deck panel in your Saab ... This is no big deal at all the sound will pass right through the cardboard (maybe loose the slightest amount of high end... and still be bunches better than any 4 X 10 speaker stuff you can buy... and cheaper.. etc... You could even mount multiple speakers on the adapter board and put the high-end tweeters under the original Saab grill with the "woofer next to it pointing up at the cardboard rear deck... all without cutting up the rear deck and messing up the original factory look. good luck.
