You are all talking rubbish. Here is the lowdown on ABS.... First, ABS generally spealing does increase braking distance over a non-ABS car driven by the same good driver. This is because when the tyres are close to, but not actually locked, they are at their most efficient for braking. ABS (oversensitve) will release the brakes at this point and re-apply them, hence a longer stopping distance.... In a Badly driven car v ABS, the driver will lock the brakes and increase stopping distance over ABS as sliding tyres do not perform well. I have had ABS on cars for the last 6 years. I have only ever had it operate on poor surfaces such as ice and gravel. I do drive my cars hard and fast, and use the brakes hard and fast (front pads every 9K miles). ABS is there for BAD drivers and for good drivers to maintain control in emergencies. Bust you must keep your brake to the floor when this happens or you are wasting the good effects of the ABS!
