This is not safe for any car. The voltage regulator will increase the charging power of the alternator and fry it because it will think that the battery voltage is zero. The following will be damaged on old cars: Alternator, light bulbs that are lit, gauges In addition on a new car: the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) will be fried and any electronic device that is running. We are talking about a few thousand dollars of repair.
