There is no national pride, but there are commercial interests. GM made Saab survice (I am not sure if they would still be around without), but they were also responsible for the bad quality from 1993 to 1996 (or 98?). A lot of Saab parts are also used in Opel models right now, and vice versa. In fact, the 9-3 and 9-5 have the same base as the Opel Vectra. The SID is assumably developed by Siemens and also sold to Opel. The TiD engine is manufactured (or constructed?) by Daimler Steir Puch and also used for several Opel models, and the mirror adjustment switch (with that soft button) seems to be an Opel part as well. The head restraint system is now also offered in the Opel Astra (at least). The new 3.0 litres TiD engine seems to originate at Isuzu. Thyl Etc etc.
