Been there and agree totally. Mirrors in general do not have enough outward adjustment on the driver's side to be of true value. I have gotten into arguments over this and most people want to see the LR fender in the mirror. I always ask, "Why, it will be there anyway, just imagine its presence and view it AFTER you get out of the car." The convex LH mirrors are not allowed by DOT spec, though you can get one from Europe and install it if you want. They are installed as OE in Europe on your car. As for further adjustment, I have not taken one apart to see what is possible. I sold the '96 900SE drive and got a '92 900T. Its mirrors adjust a bit further out, at least from my driving position.
