Subject: Re: 2001 SAAB SE Conv. vs. Volvo C70 HT Conv.

One of my work colleagues bought a C70 conv at the same time as I got my 9-3 - we're both insured on both cars, so we share them between us. On the whole we both agree that the Saab is the better car - but not by much. The Saab feels more sporty, whereas the Volvo seems more touring orientated. The 9-3 has the 185bhp engine, the C70 the 2.4 200bhp one - yet the Saab feels faster, and in real life IS faster - both in a straight line and overtaking. The C70 just feels that much heavier and well.... dull. There's one particular corner we both drive, and enjoy - wide, safe, and fun. Country lane..... no traffic..... BOTH cars will do this corner at 50mph.... the crucial difference is the 9-3 tells the driver to go faster,,, cmon cmon... I want more! Whereas the Volvo seems to corner more grudgingly - it will do it - but it doesn't want to.... If we are carrying clients we'll take the C70 everytime - there's far more space in the back - but if we're carrying luggage, the Volvo is left to rot as it's boot (trunk for you Yanks) is laughable. Finally, can I just say that despite owning good cars, and a company, we're both in our 20's - so image is important ;-) And for image, the Volvo hasn't got a hope.............. In all, the C70 cost more to buy/run/insure etc, and yet in our minds, for the reasons mentioned above, the 9-3 is the better car.
