Subject: Fuel pump relay prices.
The fuel pump relay on my 1987 900 turbo 8v has started to become a
little unreliable. I've dismantled it and found a dry joint which I
have repaired so all is now fine and the car is running fine.
However, I'd like to get another relay and carry it in the glovebox in
case mine packs in again, BUT Saab want £117 (UK), and even
Eurocarparts want over £60 for a pattern part. This seems extremely
expensive to me, having seen the inside of one! I could find none in
the local yards breakers either.
I have heard (on this newsgroup) that a relay off of a VW golf GTI
will work, even though not all of the pins are connected.
My question is this: Which model/year VW does the relay come from, and
does it really work. Are the unconnected pins important?
This would be a big saving if it fits as the VW relay is only around
£25.
Alternatively, does anyone have a second hand relay kicking
around.....
Thanks in advance.
