Subject: Re: Main dealer, Quality of service.

Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing??!!!! I am frnakly appalled, though not entirely suprised by your experiences. I was very nearly put off Saab's when I bought my first one - a 1994 900SE Turbo with all the trimmings. The saleman was excellent, and helped me find the right car, but the service dept was next to useless, or rather, way beyond incompetent! When i bought the car, it had 70,000 miles on the clock, and at about 72k, the gearbox popped regularly out of 3rd, and didn't like going into reverse - and likewise popped out of that too. The service dept couldn't find anything wrong, until a colleague of mine found me a recall notice from 1994 detailing a gearbox mod which, suprise suprise, hadn't been done on my car. The service dept then did the mod, under warranty, but put some part on back to front, so the box merrily emptied most of it's oil all over my drive..... I continued to have probs with the box, and the manager then accused me of poor driving even when I argued that any damage couldn't possibly have been caused by me in 2k miles as opposed to the prvious 70k clocked up by it's last owner.... Several heated calls to Saab GB later, they paid to strip and repair the box, and lo and behold, it worked. Needless to say, I didn't return to that dealership and now have to drive across town to the next nearest one - however, for my new dealer nothing is too much trouble, and I have since purchased a 900 Aero for my father, and a brand spanking new 9-3 convertible for me.Apart from the coffe, which is dire, they have been nothing short of excellent, abnd I have never had cause to fault them. I even had a puncture on my first week of owning the 9-3 and they replaced the whole tyre for free! After my little rant, what I'm suggesting is that you take the matter up with Saab HQ. Saab GB were polite but relatively unhelpful, but as soon as I threatened to contact Saab Sweden direct they pulled their fingers out and got the problems sorted. You made a specific request, you raised concerns and you stated your requirements - they didn't follow through - don't bother hassling the lackeys in the service depatrment - take it to the top, and then step back and watch the fall out. H. > This is certainly not the level of service I would expect to receive >from a Saab dealer, not carrying out instructions, then being insulted by >the service manager! >
