Pete, My '88 900T did the same kind of thing - rather than try to find the exact location of the noise, what I did was to isolate it somewhat, as you have done, and then I sprayed a silicone lubricant into all the joints I could get at (sparingly; don't flood the darn thing), and the noise goes away for 3 or 4 years at a time. Worth a "shot", anyway... if I was going to do it again, I think I'd use a dry lubricant rather than silicone, though. Dave Hinz
